Switching from a Commercial Textbook to a Ximera OER Textbook

Ohio State's math department continues its long-term project to improve student success. A component of this project is the improvement of the textbook: the previous commercial textbook and homework platform has been replaced by a free open-source textbook powered by our Ximera platform. Participants will be invited to explore and discuss the design of the platform and encouraged to identify existing open-source texts that could be used to improve the quality, affordability, and accessibility of their own courses. A significant challenge of the transition to an accessible, open-source text is not so much technological but political. What strategies are available to navigate the politics within our own institutions to encourage the adoption of high-quality open educational resources? What benefits has Ohio State seen in the transition from a commercial to an open-source text?
