Using the iPad in Your Course: Assignments, Activities and Lessons Learned

All incoming freshmen received an iPad at The Ohio State University. How does an instructor utilize an iPad in a course that has not previously incorporated a great deal of technology? The iPad features numerous features that can be used to accommodate active and collaborative learning, including a large screen, portability and inexpensive software (Diemer, Fernandez, & Streepey, 2013). Assignments, ideas, lessons learned and student perspectives will be shared by the instructor of a Children's Literature course.

Leah Herner-Patnode, Ed.D is an associate professor, Special Education, Department of Educational Studies, The Ohio State University at Lima. She is academic program coordinator for the education department at Lima. Her public school teaching experiences include grades 3-5 and Gifted in Clark County Schools in Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Las Vegas. Her university teaching includes classes for teacher education programs in University of Nevada Las Vegas, Clark County, Community College, California Lutheran University, California State University Northridge and The Ohio State University at Lima.
