Be Creative: Engaging Online Simulations in a Budget-Neutral Environment

How can you leverage creativity and instructional design to develop effective online learning in a tight budget environment? Davenport’s in-seat military simulation was developed based on research about military student experiences transitioning to higher education. This simulation is designed to increase awareness and inspire behavior change to create a more inclusive environment for military students and colleagues. We were tasked with creating an online version of this simulation to ensure sustainability and provide greater portability of the learning experience without additional staff or budget. Join us to learn how we developed a budget-neutral online version of our in-seat Military Simulation, and experience the model directly.

As Director of Learning Design & Strategy, John is responsible for leading the design, development, deployment, and management of e-learning modules, multimedia projects and systems that meet the learning and development needs of all employees in achieving Davenport University's strategic goals and vision. John possesses over 15 years of experience in graphic design, instructional technology, and web management in a variety of industries including financial services, higher education, and manufacturing. John has led numerous technology training workshops, served as guest lecturer for graduate-level courses, and has facilitated live webcasts to global audiences. John has presented locally and nationally on topics such as learning technology and social learning.

Keri Dutkiewicz, PhD, currently serves as the Director of Faculty Learning at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, MI where she facilitates professional development opportunities, mentors faculty and administrators, and designs innovative and engaging learning experiences. She also partners with the Cultural Intelligence Center to help build inclusive, equitable, and diverse educational communities. A certified Equine Experiential Learning facilitator, she leverages her love for horses to help leaders at all levels build congruency and communication skills.
