Connecting Campus: Launching the New GE
In 2022 Ohio State launches a new General Education (GE) curriculum, and an opportunity to connect the university like never before. This session introduces two new GE courses, new tools, and a new way for students to interact with their courses, their instructors, and one another across the college experience.
Dr. Beers will direct two new “Bookend” courses designed to help students explore the options available to them in the GE (Launch seminar) and, before graduating, reflect on their educational experiences and outcomes (Reflection seminar). She has taught at Ohio State for 22 years and directed Introductory Psychology, one of the university’s largest GE courses, for 16 years. As senior director, she will develop and support a diverse instructional team to staff these courses, ultimately reaching all undergraduate students at Ohio State.
Dr. Johnson is the High-Impact Curriculum Expert for the Office of Academic Enrichment. She has over 20 years experience in multiple roles in higher education including tenure-track faculty, teaching consultant, and curriculum development consultant for both new programs and programs working to revise their curricula. She currently works with faculty and staff to create opportunities for all students to engage with experiential learning in courses across campus.
Dr. Kalish coordinates General Education implementation and assessment at Ohio State. He has assisted university faculty and instructors in developing courses and curricula and in supporting student learning for nearly 30 years. He has taught both first year writing and graduate university pedagogy classes. His scholarly work includes publications in university pedagogy and educational development, especially on how universities prepare graduate students for those parts of academic work beyond disciplinary scholarship.
