An Inclusive and Creative Service for Experiential Learning
How can educators implement creative and experiential learning opportunities in their instructional practice? A library department will share their experiences developing a successful makerspace that brings together faculty, staff, and students through engaging experiential learning activities. Attendees will gain ideas for adding creative, maker-based activities into their teaching, or for developing programs around innovation and experiential learning at their own institutions.
Sarah Nagle is Creation and Innovation Services Librarian at Miami University in Ohio. Sarah has over six years of library makerspace experience, and planned and opened a new makerspace at Miami’s King Library in 2019. Her work includes supporting maker learning and innovation topics through events, instruction, and outreach. Sarah has a strong research interest in maker-centered learning, both in informal environments and as part of formalized curricula.
Elias Tzoc, originally from Guatemala, is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. He joined Miami University in August 2007. He is currently the Department Head of the Create and Innovate Department, where he manages/leads a group of creative librarians and technologists working on innovative and entrepreneurial library services that help teach creativity and support experiential learning at Miami University.
Lori Chapin is currently serving as the Manager of Innovative Spaces, where she supports the University Libraries’ makerspace. Lori has 14 years of experience in managing student employees and in space management. Lori has a strong interest in experiential learning and her research interests include maker literacies and user experience.
