Week 1: Play

This week's class will begin by reviewing the OSU XP course structure. We will briefly discuss the objectives for each week, deliverables at the end of the 5-week course, as well as our goals for this cohort moving forward. After playing some games we will identify, as a group, the potential benefits of game-based learning in education. Finally, we will introduce Twine, the primary tool that we will be using throughout this course, and ask you to begin brainstorming ideas for your own game.

Objectives:

  1. Differentiate gamification from gameful learning.
  2. Identify notable game mechanics and aspects of the games played this week.
  3. Discuss what makes games educational.
  4. Begin brainstorming ideas for a text-based game you want to produce over the next 5 weeks.
