Fair Use and Public Domain: Explore New Materials for Teaching

After a 20-year wait, published works began entering the public domain on January 1, 2019 in the United States. These copyright-free works may now be used freely! Join us in the Imaginarium after our companion Lightning Ideas session to discuss how using public domain works and relying on fair use for works still under copyright can enhance your teaching. Innumerable opportunities exist for educators and students to explore and incorporate new books, films, music, and art into their teaching, learning, and scholarship.

Sandra Aya Enimil is an Assistant Professor and the Program Director of Copyright Services at the Ohio State University Libraries. Sandra provides information and resources on using and creating copyrighted materials. She works with individuals and departments across campus. Sandra earned her JD and MLIS degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Sandra has a BA in Political Science and Psychology from the University of Michigan and a MA in International Relations from the University of Ghana.

Maria Scheid is Copyright Services Specialist with Copyright Services at The Ohio State University Libraries. She provides information on copyright to faculty, staff, and students of the university engaged in teaching, research, and scholarship. She works with units in the Libraries and across campus, providing resources and support on issues ranging from using materials to author rights. She received her J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
